New York court overturns Harvey Weinstein sex crime conviction – eNews Malaysia

NEW YORK: New York’s highest court on Thursday overturned disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 conviction on sex crime expenses and ordered a brand new trial.

In their 4-3 choice, judges cited errors in the best way the trial had been performed, together with admitting the testimony of girls who weren’t a part of the fees towards him. “Order reversed and a brand new trial ordered,“ the ruling stated.

Weinstein, 72, was convicted in February 2020 of rape and sexual assault by a court in New York, and later sentenced to 23 years in jail.

He was subsequently convicted and sentenced by a Los Angeles court to a further 16 years in jail for the rape of a lady in a Beverly Hills resort room.

Bombshell allegations broke towards the Academy Award successful producer in 2017, launching the #MeToo motion and paving the best way for a whole lot of girls to struggle again towards sexual violence within the office.

“With as we speak’s choice, this Court continues to thwart the regular beneficial properties survivors of sexual violence have fought for in our felony justice system,“ one of many judges who dissented with the choice stated.
