Driving schools allowed to operate from Thursday

Motor automobile driving institutes (ILP) nationwide are allowed to operate from Sept 9 underneath the National Recovery Plan (NRP) by appointment, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong mentioned in the present day.

While the ILP could be permitted to operate from Sept 9, the examination course of to acquire the driving licences would solely start on Sept 17, he mentioned.

“This is to enable the driving institutes and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to handle any arising points that the candidates might face,” he mentioned in an announcement.

Wee mentioned the permission as authorized by the National Security Council (MKN) was topic to full adherence to the present customary working procedures (SOP) underneath the NRP.

He mentioned the staff, instructing workers and candidates should be absolutely vaccinated, verifiable with the COVID-19 Digital Vaccination Certificate and identification card.

Wee mentioned the driving institutes have been permitted to operate based mostly on the share of staff that had been vaccinated.

“If 40  per cent of an ILP’s staff have been vaccinated, it could operate at 60 per cent of the present staffing. If 60 per cent have been vaccinated, it could operate with 80 per cent of its workers. 

“An ILP might operate with 100 per cent staffing if 80 per cent of its workers have been vaccinated. 

“Staff or candidates with signs, individuals residing within the Enhanced Movement Control Order (Enhanced Movement Control Order) areas, individuals underneath surveillance (PUS), and individuals underneath quarantine should not allowed to come to the ILP. 

“All workers and candidates should adjust to the well being protocols stipulated by the Health Ministry and new norms resembling checking of physique temperature, checking in with MySejahtera, sustaining bodily distancing, carrying a face masks and utilizing hand sanitiser,” he added.

In understanding and acknowledging the difficulties confronted by the ILP through the COVID-19 pandemic, Wee mentioned the Ministry of Transport would grant a three-month moratorium till Nov 30 on the renewal of ILP operators’ permits that expired between January and September this 12 months.

“As the driving institutes start to operate as soon as once more, we hope that this resolution would carry reduction to the operators, instructing workers and the general public that want their companies,” he mentioned whereas reminding that any violation of the related SOPs might lead to motion taken underneath the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
