Singaporean dad shocked after being charged RM61,766 for daughter’s in-game spending spree

PETALING JAYA, January 3 — A Singaporean dad was appalled when his bank card was charged S$20,000 (RM61,766) for his 18-year-old daughter’s in-game purchases.

The Straits Times reported yesterday that Lim Cheng Mong was greatly surprised when his financial institution instructed him that he had missed the massive overdue funds.

“Initially, I assumed I used to be scammed.

“But then the bank card firm mentioned that these had been authentic transactions and there was nothing the corporate might do.”

His bank card was linked to his daughter’s Grab account to cowl her transportation bills.

He found that she had misused his card and had linked her Grab e-wallet to a preferred sport known as Genshin Impact and went on a six-week spending spree to purchase in-game merchandise to improve her avatar.

“I instructed her off that the cash she used was some huge cash — price one 12 months of faculty charges if she studied abroad.

“An enormous sum was spent within the blink of a watch,” he mentioned.

Genshin Impact, developed and printed by Chinese studio miHoYo is an open-world motion role-playing sport that takes place in a fantasy world known as Teyvat.
