Trade-related and ESG measures must be fair to developing countries – Tengku Zafrul – eNews Malaysia

“The proliferation of commerce-associated environmental measures corresponding to the specter of environmental, social and governance (ESG) by developed countries is among the many most necessary points of worldwide commerce,” he stated throughout the assembly of the equitable transition alliance.

The assembly was organised along side the World Economic Forum held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Tengku Zafrul stated the proliferation of commerce-associated measures has emerged as potential protectionist instruments that would unfairly discourage international manufacturing and commerce, significantly to the developing countries.

“These measures can manifest as border devices and compliance with these measures will undoubtedly be difficult and maybe too expensive for many developing nation-exporters,” he added.

Tengku Zafrul careworn that leaving the matter unattended might doubtlessly erode developing and least developing countries’ commerce competitiveness and funding attractiveness.

Citing a report by the World Trade Organisation, environmental items and companies face a median tariff of 4.3 per cent together with quite a few non-tariff measures.
